Unethical Methods Of Search Engine Optimisation

Search Engine Optimization | Comments (0) prettyone @ 12:00 am

In the world of search engine optimisation there are generally two schools of thought on the methods and techniques that should be utilised to raise a website in search engine rankings. Of these two schools there is ‘black hat’ optimisation that can be described as unethical and pursues a course of action that works towards hoodwinking the search engine mechanisms into raising a sites’ profile. By using black hat optimisation methods however you will in fact harm your rankings in the long run, more advisable is the ethical route.

The history of black hat optimisation started around a decade ago when the search engine mechanisms, or algorithms were not yet developed entirely. Like most things in life if there is a way to cheat the system many will try. In these early stages the search engine algorithms were manipulated. This was especially true in the ‘adult’ industries where black hat optimisation was employed extensively to raise specific sites’ rankings. But how has black hat developed? What methods of optimisation are still considered unethical in the eyes of a search engine?

First and foremost a commonly used method has been keyword stuffing. Put literally this is the process of filling a webpage with lists of keywords that attempt to make a website more relevant in the eyes of search engines. Google especially has worked to remove the effects of this method by searching for true text rather than lists of bad prose that simply contain the right words. If a search engine does find you guilty of using such methods, penalties will undoubtedly follow.

Another method of black hat methods is the process of cloaking that utilises a hidden webpage that is only visible to search engine spiders. In combination to this hidden page that is only visible to the spiders there is an accompanying webpage that is viewed by human users. Once again this form of optimisation is seriously frowned upon in the SEO world.

In combination with keyword stuffing is the process of using invisible text, or mosaic cloaking. This is the process of making text boxes full of keywords, usually using a font colour that matches the background and hence invisible to the human user while remaining visible to spiders.

Another way of optimising a website unethically is to create a doorway page. Put simply this is a page that has undergone a process of optimisation and subsequently has great search engine rankings. The problem however is that this page has no real content and is purely used to link to another less highly ranked page. In conjunction with these doorway pages are spam pages that perform much the same purpose but instead are full of adverts that make money from each click; fundamentally these are detrimental to the quality of the internet.

Interlinking is another method of black hat optimisation that creates many websites and simultaneously links them all together to improve the back links to a site. This can be fruitful for improved rankings but once again will eventually harm rankings once search engine regulators pick up on it.

Finally there are two techniques that have been developed to combat the ever more advanced search engine algorithms. One of these is selling page rank, a process that simply involves selling links from a highly rankled page to a lower one. The other is buying expired domain names of sites that originally had good rankings and keeping the high number of links related to the site.

These methods are seriously unethical in the optimisation industry although unfortunately still employed by some unscrupulous operators. The crux of the issue is that they actively work to reduce the relevance of search engine results and subsequently are frowned upon.

There are operators out there who follow ethical methods and instead of trying to manipulate the algorithms use them to their advantage; this has been broadly labelled as search engine compliance. By studying the SEO methods that are being utilised on your behalf it is possible to identify the black hatters and instead use a white hat or ethical SEO specialist.

Internet marketing expert Thomas Pretty looks into search engine optimisation methods that can be considered black hat or unethical.

3 Ways To Boost Your Online Success

Affiliate Programs | Comments (0) ukeerick @ 12:00 am

When I first started online, I beleive that I had the same struggles as everyone else, but I quickly realized that those who were crying foul, or scam were the ones who just didnt listen or read when they bought. So many people get caught up in the make millions and forget about the how to part. I always make sure to follow up leads and gain someones trust before actually getting them to join. I could sell anyone on the idea of making a gazillion dollars, we all can. But what people need is the know how to do it. Prove to them you know what you are doing.

First of all, you need to know how to market, the marketing that works the best is different for everyone, just simply because one person excels at one aspect and fails at another. I guess its a good thing there are thousands of ways to market on the internet. Marketing will always be the most important part of earning online, because if you drive thousands to your site, someone will buy whether you sell them an idea or not. So traffic is number one.

Second is to not get discouraged, I know its hard, but you have to realize, with over 100 million active business seekers worldwide, you cannot ever stop or quit after you contact a handful of them. Stop taking the easy way out and crying out “SCAM”. I am quite confident I could make money with any online program or business, so there is no reason you cannot. I have felt scammed online, but not from opportunities, but from advertisers that claimed the world, you know the type. If more than one person is making money from a business or program, it is not a scam, it may not be the one for you, but you have to accept that its you, not the program. You just were not a match. Thats why marketing is so important, get *IT* infront of as many people as posible and continue moving forward.

Third and most important, dont spend thousands of dollars on advertising without knowing what you are doing. Majority of the guaranteed clicks are people who are paid to look at websites. They are not going to buy. Second, pay per click doesnt work until you are in profit mode, just simply because its reverse marketers who are mostly clicking on them, the business’ that want to do search engine optimization
of your site, or anyone who has a full time JOB searching for people to call and try to sell them their crap.

PPC are clicked on by other marketers who are wasting time ( not advertising ) and looking for good ideas. Let me put it this way, everyone has a great website, everyone has great product, ( i dont care what you think, Im the one making a fortune, not you ) The difference between making money online and quitters, is marketing, traffic. The difference between making money and being a top earner is ability to sell. Its that easy, so top wasting time, just drive traffic, 75% of your time, you will get opt-ins, you will get sign ups. 25% of your time should be communicating. So advertise, call the leads and then keep moving forward. P.S. The fortune is in the follow up.

SEO - Alchemy for the Internet

Search Engine Optimization | Comments (0) craig1961 @ 12:00 am

Let’s face it, Google rewards unique content. The more unique the content, the better chance your website has of being ranked in the coveted top spot on Google’s natural search results.

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is Alchemy for the internet. SEO services are a trunk of tools, techniques and methods that modify how a search engine crawler ranks a page in its index of returns. Potions and elixirs take the form of SEO services and SEO technology that measure and modify how a site relates its content to a major search engine crawler.

For as long as the website has been part of the internet experience, there has been SEO technology to maximize page ranking. For as long as there has been SEO technology there has been a right way and a wrong way to deploy SEO services and technology.

SEO services fall into two of general categories. White hat services are good and promote a search engines primary goal of providing relevant results to search strings. Black hat SEO services are bad and utilize techniques that are contrary to a search engines primary goal and provide irrelevant results. When considering which to use keep in mind that a search engines success depends on a search engines ability to provide users with quality results. Search engines are optimized to detect bad SEO services for survival.

Good SEO services include core concepts that websites be “genetically” designed for search engines. This concept of a good service includes optimizing the basic structure, coding and content of the site so that search engine crawlers and indexers will naturally rank a page high. Bad services employ techniques like keyword stuffing and link farms to enhance their ratings. Using bad SEO technology can result in a search engine denying a sites placement if use of bad SEO technology is discovered.

Simply put, SEO technology that is deployed to simply get the attention of search engine crawlers will not be as effective as technology that is designed to get the attention of search engine users. It becomes a matter of choice between black hat and white hat techniques. White hat techniques are the good guys, target your SEO technology with the good guys and your site will fare much better with search engines in the long run.

Remember, that the ultimate goal here is to take full advantage of the best SEO tools, techniques and methods to optimize your website to drive traffic. Without the proper optimization you’re website is just out there floating around in a “parked” position in cyberspace.

Internet Video - Why You Have To Use It For Your Business

Building Traffic | Comments (0) rockkvid @ 12:00 am

These days there is so much going on with video on the internet. I can remember back in my early days on the net when we had to limit a video clip to ten seconds or so and a tiny little frame (160×120) because anything more would take forever to download on a dial up connection. I used to go to the Real Networks convention every year to find out what the latest codec was for making video better for streaming. (I don’t even know if they even do that anymore, seems they are more in the music biz these days)

It all seems sort of funny now, spending all those hours editing and encoding tiny little ten second clips of some video for the web. Now days anyone can load any amount of video up to the web for viewing by everyone and it does not even have to cost you anything. Internet video has come of age and then some.

One of my early web sites ended up costing us more money than planned just because we filled up the company server with so much video that they had to buy more servers which were expensive in those days. NOW you don’t even have to host the video yourself or pay anything for it. With all of the video sharing sites in the market you can serve your video up in many different places (think links, think social).

It really is quite amazing when you think about it.

Now to the point. You must use video in your business. It is essential these days. It works.

AND it is easy to do and cheap to produce. Trust me here. No longer do you need to be from Hollywood to do video for the web. Now to avoid it being pure garbage you should spend at least a little time in the planning and execution of the video but never the less you can get video that promotes your business on the web very easily.

The easiest thing to do is to take your product and do what we call a screen capture recording with a voice over. Basically you walk the customer through a tour of your product while capturing the screen on video. There are a variety of tolls to do this with ranging from the free to ones that cost $250. Camtasia at $250 is at the high end but man does it rock in terms of options, ease of use and quality output. On the other end is CamStudio (camstudiodotorg) which is free and can do the basic recording.

Now for video recordings other than screen capture you can use your cell phone if it can record video, a camcorder with USB or Firewire connections to make simple live recordings of you talking about your product. Customers like to see and hear you. It helps in their buying process. Trust me on this one.
